How to Use These Material Lists
Before you head to the lumber yard, do these three things:
- Price check online first. Check your local Home Depot or Lowe's website to get current lumber prices — they fluctuate significantly and our cost estimates may be 10–20% off depending on your market.
- Add 10% waste factor. Always buy 10% more lumber than the material list calls for. Cuts go wrong, boards have defects, and you'll be glad you have extras.
- Confirm local code requirements. Some regions require pressure-treated lumber for floor framing in contact with the ground — even on a gravel pad. Check before you buy standard lumber.
